The West Virginia Mountaineers will host the UConn Huskies on Wednesday night in a Big East vs Big 12 battle. According to the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings, UConn is rated No. 25 in the country and West Virginia is No. 48.
The Mountaineers are coming into this game on a four-game winning streak, most recently taking down the Radford Highlanders on Saturday 67-51. West Virginia led by 18 points at the half and cruised the rest of the way, yet did not cover the 19 point spread. On the season West Virginia is only 3-5 ATS, despite winning seven of their eight games straight up. Taz Sherman, a 6’4 senior who leads West Virginia averaging 21 ppg, scored 27 points in Saturday’s win over Radford. The Mountaineers’ second-leading scorer, Sean McNeil (12 ppg) did not play against Radford and is questionable for this game with a lower-back injury.
UConn is 4-5 ATS this season and is currently on a three-game winning streak. On Saturday the Huskies routed the Grambling Tigers 88-59 as a 27-point favorite. UConn had not covered the spread in its three previous games.
R.J Cole, a 6’1 senior leads the Huskies with 16.3 ppg and is averaging 23 ppg over the last three contests. UConn has a key injury as well. Tyrese Martin, a 6’6 senior who leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per game and is third with 12.9 ppg, will not play on Wednesday due to a wrist injury.
