NL East Final stretch | News Article by Sportshandicapper.com

The MLB season is coming to an end, but the baseball gods did keep one division race open for us.

Without the NL East, the only real intrigue would be the Aaron Judge homerun chase for 61.

The New York Mets have been in the first place of the NL East all season with exception of one day when it flipped a few weeks ago, but the Braves have been WHITE HOT for the whole second half of the season. Both teams have 97-58 records and they start a 3-game series on Friday in Atlanta.

Before this series kicks off, the Mets are finishing a series with the Marlins and the Braves are favorites against the Nationals. They both need to hold serve so they aren’t heading into this game having to chase.

The Mets are coming off a loss yesterday against the Marlins to open the door to the tie game.

This series could be for all the marbles, as the loser is going to the wildcard game and their pitching is going to be jumbled for the division series if they win that. The loser of the division has to host a 3 game series all at home against the sixth seed.

The Mets are still a big favorite over the Braves, as just one win will give them a tiebreaker over them for the division, but still need to get 2 of 3, especially with Jacob DeGrom and Max Scherzer taking the mound on Saturday and Sunday.

The Braves did lose star rookie pitcher spencer strider for a few weeks the other night, so that may open the door just a bit more for the Mets to get this division locked up.
