Last week in a press briefing, Adam Silver of the NBA and French President Emmanuel Macron announced a number of initiative programs to uplift the game of basketball in Africa as well as in France.

The 4-point initiative also outlined future developments of basketball in these football-obsessed countries to further promote the game at every level. The French government has already started sketching up a comprehensive plan with the senior executives of the NBA to chalk out the campaign goals.

The likely cooperation between the NBA and the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) will be announced officially in the 2024 Summer Olympic and the Paralympic games which will be held in Paris.

All these development plans were discussed last week ahead of the Nike-sponsored 2023 NBA Paris Game that featured the six-time NBA champion Chicago Bulls playing against the three-time Detroit Pistons in Paris.

To promote the game, NBA Will soon start cooperating with LNB, France’s top professional basketball league, as well as with Basketball Africa League (BAL). They are planning to host exhibition games and ancillary events to stroke excitement among French fans.

Victor Wembanyama, the top 2023 NBA draft, and French star will be featured in the events in order to create the craze for this beautiful game.

On the way leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics, the government of France and the NBA will hold several different categories of grassroots development projects that will engage fans with the game, bring star player appearances, and will create interactive events to bring basketball directly to Paris.

Aside from the LNB, France, and NBA drew out further plans to invest in basketball development in Africa by creating facilities that can host big BAL and NBA matches. It will not only promote basketball in the country but also will drive economic growth across the continent.

There have been more basketball players in the NBA that came from France than any other country outside North America, which includes a total of nine this season.

Therefore, France’s top inclusive development bank, the Agence Franchise de Developpement (AFD) has announced its commitment to finance and assist all the development projects in Africa in order to increase social cohesion and better communication with the developing countries.

They will aid in the promotion of youth basketball programs and will invest in the basketball infrastructures so that France can collaborate with other emerging economies of the continent in the coming future.
